Abstract

The increase in industrialization and population, increases the need of fresh water. As we know that the major portion of earth is covered with water, but this water cannot be used directly for household purpose. So, we have to pure this water from drinking purpose. By using renewable formed of energy i.e., solar energy the purification process can be done and the equipment used for purification is defined as solar still and process is known as solar desalination process. But the solar still is having lesser efficiency, to increase its experimental worked is carried out. The solar still is fabricated with 1 m2 area in which stepped absorber is used with corrugated surface which is coupled to evacuated tube. The experimentation is carried out for two different conditions i.e., inclined solar still having stepped absorber with corrugated fins (Case-1) and inclined solar still having stepped absorber with corrugated fins integrate with vacuum tubes (Case-2). The 2.62Kg/m2 /day and 3.62Kg/m2 /day cumulative fresh output is obtained from still for Case-1 and Case-2 correspondingly. The 40.65% and 32.59% of efficiency of still is obtained for Case-2 and Case-1 correspondingly. The 24.73% more fresh output is obtained for Case-2 as compared to Case-1.
